Retro Amtrak Uniforms

That’s right. We had a suit & tie before Justin Timberlake was even born!

This throwback pic shows Amtrak employees modeling the new (for the time) 10th anniversary uniforms. This was 1981, and a lot has changed since then.

Today, Amtrak onboard staff wear the same traditional navy blue as our conductors. This beige, burgundy and navy retro look came about thanks to tons of input from employees and even took a whole year to plan!

Passengers on the busy Northeast Corridor were the first the see the digs in April 1981, with the rest of the system getting the anniversary uniforms the next month.

What would you wear if you worked on one of our trains? Don’t be shy, fashionistas!
