Thanksgiving is just around the corner, but turkey and leftovers aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you fall into that category, we have a few recommendations for you. Skip the green bean casserole and discover a new favorite dish in one of these foodie cities. Not sure where to start? Read on for tips from local foodies who know how to get the most of out of a food-inspired adventure.

Baltimore, MD

When most people think of Baltimore, images of colossal crab cakes come to mind. But according to Rachel Rappaport, there’s more to this city than seafood and its affinity for old bay. When we chatted with Rachel she dished (pun intended), about Baltimore’s unique neighborhoods and the tasty food that comes with them. From authentic pasta dishes to tasty Peruvian cuisine, according to her, an Amtrak trip to Baltimore will have you chowing down in Charm City.

San Diego, CA

First off, San Diego is called America’s Finest City. Regardless if you’re into food, you should visit just because it’s a fine American city. But back to food. When we sat down with Erin Jackson, the city editor of Dining Out San Diego, we quickly learned why San Diego would be a great stop for foodie folk. Maybe it was the fish tacos or carne asada fries, but the thought of fresh food and sunshine had us ready to ride. The same might happen to you. Find out if her other recommendations inspire your inner-foodie explorer.

Buffalo, NY

If you’re a vegetarian you might want to skip this one. Because when we heard from Donnie from Buffalo Eats, he told us about where locals go for Buffalo wings and this magical sandwich called the beef wreck. Yes, carnivores you’ll probably salivate. After he shared his love for the foodie spots in his city, we discovered that exploring Buffalo with a fork in hand was definitely a good look.

Portland, OR

Last stop on tour takes us to Portland for foodie fun, Pacific Northwest style. PDX resident, Ashley of Local Haven, cut no corners when she told us about the spots to try in her city. As a food blogger, she knows exactly where to go for great atmosphere and even better food. She even gave us some extra tips for where to go grab a cocktail or which local brewery to try. Check out all of her recommendations here.

If you’re ready to reinvent your Thanksgiving this year with a foodie trip, then book your ticket and pack your fork, because we’re ready to be your ride. We promise, the family will understand.
