All Aboard the (Crowd Funded) Love Train

Next month London-based newlyweds Mike and Becca are setting off on a true adventure. More than a lifetime of marital bliss lies before them. Instead, it’s about 3,000 miles of rail that they have to look forward to.

“We plan to take in the sights of New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle and San Francisco,” Becca says.

Their love for train travel started when Mike took Becca on her first overnight train to Berlin back in February 2009. After that, the couple was hooked, traveling by rail in countries, including Spain, Italy, Denmark, Hungary and Belgium.

For their three-week U.S. trip aboard Amtrak, the couple will be traveling on the Northeast Regional from New York to Washington then on the Capitol Limited from Washington to Chicago then on the Empire Builder from Chicago to Seattle then on the Coast Starlight from Seattle to Oakland, Calif. (phew!)

They also have coast-to-coast adventures planned to ensure the journey is the trip of a lifetime.

“We decided that we didn’t need a traditional wedding gift list of household items,” Becca says. “Instead we put together a website which asked people for contributions toward our train tickets and spending money based on specific experiences [at each destination].”
