June’s Top Free or Low-Cost Events in DC, NYC, PA

June is here which means the first day of summer is only a few weeks away and SPF season is upon us! Whether you’re planning your next beach getaway or getting excited for Summer Friday’s, Amtrak has you covered for June’s top free or low-cost events in DC, NYC and PA!

All of the events and destinations listed can be reached via our Northeastern trains!

Late Night Smithsonian Museum: Washington D.C.

Have you ever wanted to spend a night at the museum? Well, with the Smithsonian Museums Summer Hours, which run from now-late September, you have the chance! Head over the Smithsonian Museums and stay past the normal closing hours while experiencing the National Mall at night. Check out the list of museums, as well as the new summer hours to get the most of your D.C. experience!

Giant National Capital Barbeque Battle: Washington D.C.

One of the most exciting events in D.C. is around the corner, The Giant National Capital Barbecue Battle. Head over to Pennsylvania Avenue on the weekend of June 22- June 23 for the ultimate Barbeque Battle of the District. Rain or shine, this event is held with live bands, interactive exhibits and obviously, FOOD! Tickets are $15 for a day, and kids under 10 years old are free.

Amtrak NYToday Show Concert Series: New York City, NY

Summer in NYC is back, which means the Today Show’s Summer Concert Series is returning! Join the cast of the Today Show outside in Rockefeller Plaza’s Studio 1A on Weekdays from 7am-9am. Although the event is free admission, The Today Show recommends you RSPV online to make the check-in process go as smooth as possible in the early A.M. Keep in mind, Monday’s and Friday’s are the busiest days, so plan accordingly!

Taste of Times Square: New York City, NY

Head over to Times Square on Monday June 3rd from 5-9pm to experience Taste of Times Square, the annual outdoor food and music festival! Over 52 restaurants from around the world will come together to fill Broadway with live music and delicious food. Tickets cost $1 each while food dishes can cost between 2-6 tickets. Tickets are on sale now to buy in bundles ranging from $10-$50.

 

Rail Park: Philadelphia, PA

Starting on June 14th, Rail Park, a quarter-mile of elevated greenspace, opens to the public. Rail Park, Philly’s adaptation of NYC’s The High Line, will stretch from Broad and Noble streets and head up to Callowhill Street. The Rail Park will feature work from local artists, as well as seating space for gatherings and unbeatable elevated skyline views. Grab your book, find a bench and relax in the summer sun.

Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival: Pittsburg, PA

Join the residents of Pittsburg in celebrating the 60th Anniversary of their annual Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival, which is held at Point State Park from June 7- June 16.  This event is free admission and is a 10-day celebration highlighting music and art in Downtown Pittsburg. Head down to the Cultural District to experience world-class art and see how this festival has turned into the largest showcase of visual and performing arts.
