Enjoy Stunning Views on the Coast Starlight

Get a sneak peak of the wonders the observation car has in store: check out our 360° virtual tour of the Coast Starlight.

From big city views to nearly 350 miles of California coastline, it’s no wonder that the Coast Starlight is considered to be one of the best and most scenic trips in North America. On this route you’ll ride through unsurpassed mountains and rolling hills, including Mt. Shasta, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Rainier — all before arriving in Seattle.

When traveling on the Coast Starlight, you can enjoy our full-service dining car or visit the stunning observation car to say hello to your surroundings and your fellow travelers. You and your new friends will also be able to listen to National Park Service guides narrate details of the passing terrain as part of our Rails and Trails program.

If you are traveling in a roomette or bedroom, you will also have access to the popular Parlor Car. This car offers more dining options (including a full service bar), wine and cheese pairings, board games, books, and large observation windows which can be viewed from our large, plush vintage seats. On the second level of the Parlor Car, there is a movie theater that screens family movies every evening.

At the end of the day, guests with private rooms will arrive back to their cozy beds to find that the sheets have been turned down by their personal attendant. Whether you are a business traveler going from Los Angeles to San Francisco or a tourist leisurely traveling the entire route from Seattle to Los Angeles, you’ll arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to take on your next adventure.
