Amtrak Announces Writers Selected for 2016 Amtrak Residency Program

From the tens of thousands of responses on Twitter showing interest in the Amtrak Residency upon its initial launch in 2014, to the hundreds of applications we received for the second round of the program, we couldn’t be more excited to announce the writers who will participate in this year’s Amtrak Residency program. The applications received for the program were outstanding and made the job of selecting just 24 writers a challenge for our judges. The writers selected for the program offer a diverse representation of the writing community and hail from across the country.

From the beginning of the launch of the Amtrak Residency program two years ago, we have been humbled by the overwhelming response not to just the program itself, but to Amtrak’s cross country service. Our cross country trains don’t just connect small towns to big cities, they connect families, friends and loved ones. They offer a chance to connect with other travelers, experience the American countryside without the stress of driving, and to unplug and take in the inspirational experience. Our trains help tie the fabric of this country together and we are excited for this year’s class of writers to experience the beauty of cross country train travel and hopefully find inspiration for their writing along the way.

Thank you to all that applied to the program, to those who have provided your feedback for the program along the way, to our judges who helped with the incredibly challenging task of selecting the final residents, and to our new group of residents who we hope will find their experience aboard Amtrak rewarding.
