Homecoming and Fall Break Travel

Homecoming and Fall Break Travel

College Students

Whether you’re escaping midterm stress for fall break or going back to your alma mater for homecoming, Amtrak can help you get away with convenient service to over 500 destinations. Here are three ways to ace fall travel this term.

Take advantage of Amtrak discounts

We recently upgraded our young adult riders to a year-round student discount, with no rewards program registration required. Students ages 13 to 25 with a valid student ID are eligible for 15% off the lowest Value or Flexible Fare when you book your travel at least 3 days in advance. For those of you who are collegiate at heart, save by booking early and checking in with the Amtrak Deals page before you buy! Is it family weekend? Amtrak offers military, senior and children’s discounts that make it easier to bring everyone along to visit the freshman whom you already miss so much.

Make the most of your time on board

Use the stress-free environment of the train to unwind, pre-game for the party or finish up some homework before you get back to campus. Try out the Adirondack or the Vermonter to experience the Great Dome Car and marvel at the stunning fall foliage as you travel through the northeastern forests. When you get hungry, check out the café car for a snack and some conversation with a fellow rider.

Try something new

Have you ever been to Montreal or Salt Lake City? With service to over 500 destinations, there’s bound to be a new city close enough to campus for a long weekend adventure. If you study in the Bay Area, hop on the California Zephyr to Reno or the Pacific Surfliner to LA. Got class in the Midwest? Try Illinois service up to Chicago, or the Lakeshore Limited to Cleveland. Southern students can take the Carolinian between North Carolina college towns to homecoming hop, or book the Crescent to venture down to Atlanta or New Orleans. Make moves across Texas on the Texas Eagle or explore the Southwest on the Sunset Limited.
