Jacksonville to Savannah, the Real-Life Florida Georgia Line

Sometimes Amtrak adventures take you across the country other times from city center to city center. But then there are those times where a quick ride is all you need to unplug and recharge. Today, we’re focused on travel between two southern cities that have charm, heart and laid-back awesomeness. Here are five reasons why you should take a ride on our Silver Service/Palmetto  between Jacksonville and Savannah.

  1. It’s a Short Ride
Clocking in at about two and half hours, this ride is just long enough to grab a good nap and short enough to make it a day trip. Perfect for first time riders and the little ones, this ride has all the Amtrak perks in a short amount of time.
  2. Jacksonville
A big city with southern hospitality, Jville, aka Duval is huge. It’s the largest city by area in the country. First time visitors should head to the John’s Town Center for some shopping, some drinking and of course some eating. Chat with locals who will quickly get you in a conversation about the Jags, the Noles or the Gators. If you want some outdoor fun, just hit up one of the many golf courses, like the TPC at Sawgrass. Or find the closest tennis court or one of the many water sports that Duvall residents love to enjoy.
  3. No Coat Zone
The average winter high temperature in both cities hovers in the upper 60s. Just cold enough to say the weather has changed, but nice enough to leave the gloves at home. If you’re traveling between the two cities get ready to pack light and bring the flip flops just in case.
  4. Savannah
With its small town feel and big personality, Savannah is a southern city with a little bit of everything. Take a ride to Savannah to discover the history of a city that has the largest National Historic Landmark District in the country. Take a stroll through the historic district and explore the museums, churches, mansion and monuments that call Savannah home. If you’d like to take your Savannah trip outside, try one of their sandy beaches, golf courses, or one of their unique river cruises.
  5. The Food
Good eating and good drinking. While neither city is known for one distinct dish, good eatin’ is still in abundance. In Jacksonville, try Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q, a restaurant with an over 65 year history of cooking up barbecue for the city. Or try one of the newer restaurants like Moxie Kitchen + Cocktails or The Potters House Soul Food Bistro. Over in Savannah, locals love their low country boils, fresh seafood and options for contemporary cuisine. If your tummy takes you to Savannah, give Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar, 45 Bistro or Tubby’s Seafood River Street a try.
