The Rundown on What to Do in Atlanta

Known to many simply as ATL, Atlanta is a big city with a big time must-do list. Frequent travelers, foodies and folks who like to see and be seen should all make a stop to what Robin from It’s RobinLori! calls the“new hollywood.”

As a longtime resident of this southern city, Robin gave us plenty of local approved recommendations and more importantly, shared why her city is both charming and peachy. Hear what she had to say.

Amtrak: Atlanta is a big city with lots of character. Where should first-time visitors go to get a sense of Atlanta history?
Robin: Visitors must ABSOLUTELY visit the MLK National Historic Site, Centennial Olympic Park and Atlanta History Center (Swan House).

Locals give the best recommendations. So tell us some of your favorite spots to go for a meal.
I love love love Two Urban Licks, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse at Phipps Plaza, Steamhouse Lounge and Fat Matt’s Rib Shack!

Atlanta is a family friendly town. Are there places families should put on their must-see list?
Oh yes… take a ride on our NEW Atlanta Street Car and visit the Center for Human and Civil Rights, World of Coca Cola and The Aquarium and Atlanta Skyview (Farris Wheel).

If you’re looking to go out with your friends to grab a drink (or two), where would you go and why?
The Tavern at Phipps, Shout in Midtown and visit the local bars in the Highlands.

If you only had one full day in Atlanta, what would you do?
I would shop and have lunch at the new upscale Buckhead Atlanta, rest for a couple of hours, dress for dinner at The Sun Dial (Downtown Atlanta) and catch a show at the Fox Theater.

Lastly, why should Amtrak riders make their next stop Atlanta?
Atlanta has so much history, family friendly tourist sites including the High Museum and a fabulous night life for singles. And top things off…we are becoming the NEW Hollywood with entertainment, fashion and movies! You never know who you might run into :-).
