Columbus Day Getaways on Amtrak

We smell Fall in the air, and that means pumpkin lattes, hayrides and apple picking. Take a break from the fast pace of back-to-school happenings and check out some of these Columbus Day events in cities that Amtrak can take you to in comfort and style:

Colorado: October is Colorado Italian American Heritage month, and the festivities reach a peak with the Denver Columbus Day Parade hosted by the Italian Heritage Community through downtown Denver. Come see floats, bands and dancing groups march down the Rocky Mountains and get your fill of famous Italian specialty desserts, drinks and snacks. Belissima!
Amtrak Route: California Zephyr

Vermont: The Green Mountain State has one of the most unique Columbus Day weekend events — the Giant Pumpkin Regatta! Super-sized pumpkins are hallowed out and then set sail on Lake Champlain for a family fun festival that you’ll be sure to remember. Don’t forget that Vermont has some of the most beautiful Fall colors on display, so book a weekend getaway at a B&B and let nature dazzle you.

New York: The City That Never Sleeps has plenty of fun Columbus Day weekend options, from checking out the gorgeous Fall foliage in Central Park, to having fun with the kids at Boo at the Zoo, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. After traipsing about the city, be sure to stop in to the famous Serendipity 3 for Frozen hot chocolate.

Boston: Feeling active? Check out Beantown’s Tufts Health Plan 10k and then head to North End’s Columbus Day Parade that features vintage autos and bagpipes. Rumor has it that there’s sales all through out the city to honor this historical holiday, so bargain hunters rejoice!
