Baggage 101: What You Can Bring On Board

40450352-300x300Curious about our baggage policy? Not sure what to bring or how much you can carry on board? Read on to get the 411 on this popular Amtrak 101 topic:

Travel is twice as nice with two FREE items
Unlike many transportation options, when you travel with us you can carry-on two free pieces of luggage. Let us repeat. You + two bags = no extra charge! Each item should not exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg) and needs to be 28 x 22 x 14 inches in size. For those Amtrak families traveling with infants under the age of two, your baby items (strollers and diaper bags) will not count towards your carry-on limit.

Rock n’ roll on board
The music doesn’t have to stop just because you’re traveling with us. That’s why we have an open door policy for small instruments (flutes, trumpets, clarinets, etc.) that fit in a passenger’s luggage or the overhead luggage racks. With medium sized instruments, like guitars and small saxophones, you can carry them on  for a $10.00 service fee and do so in lieu of a piece of baggage.  Over-sized instruments (cellos, tubas) which do not fit in luggage racks may be carried on with the purchase of an additional full revenue seat.

Surf’s up!
When you travel on our Pacific Surfliner, California dreamin’ is almost a given. But next time, bring your surfboard and wakeboard so you can actually hang ten.  Just put it in a full-length protective cover and you can carry it on board in lieu of a piece of baggage. If checking your boards are more of your thing, you can do that too, but a $10.00 service fee will apply.
