Sports-Focused Amtrak Adventures

The super bowl has come and gone, and like many sports fans we’re a little sad to see football go. But instead of boo-hooing we’re all about planning our next sports-focused Amtrak adventure. Here are a few options to check out so you can do the same.

Florida: Spring Training
Baseball season is still two months away, but the boys of summer are getting it started in sunny Florida and we think you should too. Hop on the train and get up close and personal with your favorite team or be strategic and scout out your rival. With the Grapefruit League, there are plenty of games to get you ready for the season. Just one tip from us — take the train.
Routes: Silver Star/Palmetto

Illinois: Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament
The UK Wildcats might be sitting pretty at No.1 in the rankings but the Big Ten teams are getting ready to make some noise. But before we get a taste of the madness of March, the Big Ten teams need to duke it out at the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship in Chicago. This year we think you should be there for it. Want a ride? Head here and we might be able to hook you up.
Routes: Lake Shore Limited, Capitol Limited and many others.

Missouri: Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
Preserving the history of African-American baseball, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum located in Kansas City is a must see for any baseball fan. Learn about the contributions players like Buck Leonard and Moses ‘Fleet’ Walker and the legacies of teams like the Kansas City Monarchs and New York Black Yankees had on the game. Grab your Amtrak ticket, enjoy the museum, then explore even more of this sports city.
Routes: Southwest Chief and the Missouri River Runner

Before the start of the three month NBA playoffs (April to June for those keeping track), get a little dose of basketball history at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.  Get a reminder of why Jordan was one of the best to play or get mesmerized by Coach Wooden’s contribution to the game. After the museum, ride over to Boston to tour Fenway to complete your New England Amtrak adventure.
Route: Lake Shore Limited, Northeast Regional and Vermonter

Indiana (Men’s) and Florida (Women’s): NCAA College Tournaments
The end of the professional football season means the start of March Madness (loosely speaking of course). Before you whip out your bracket, plan your trip to one or both of the tournaments. We haven’t picked our teams yet, but we can promise drama, good bball and buzzer beaters. Let’s ride to the games!
