Washington, D.C.
Just hanging out in Washington, D.C., will make you feel patriotic, but this holiday weekend, watch service men and women in uniform march in the National Memorial Day Parade, honor fallen service men and women at Arlington National Cemetery, or read through the 58,000 names of American soldiers who died while fighting the war at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Atlanta, Georgia
Reflect, explore, and discover in the Atlanta History Center’s Veterans Park where stories and oral histories of veterans are projected on a series of panels. Then salute the troops in Stone Mountain Park where fireworks and music will cap the weekend celebration.

Portland, Oregon
Veterans, reservists, and active military with valid military ID (as well as kids 6 and under!) get free admission to the 100-year-old Rose Festival’s City Fair, which kicks off Memorial Day Weekend. Otherwise, it’s only $7 for everyone else to watch the awesome fireworks, catch live music, and eat local grub throughout the holiday weekend.

Little Rock, Arkansas
With a history that extends from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, Little Rock is an interesting place to visit any day, but especially during a weekend that commemorates the people who passed fighting for our country and our freedom. This Memorial Day weekend, pay homage to brave soldiers at the Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial or enjoy an outdoor concert at the state’s largest music festival, RiverFest.
