Pharrell Williams Films “Happy” at LA Union Station
It's hard to be unhappy when you watch singer-song writer Pharrell Williams perform his new hit “Happy” from the movie Despicable Me 2. But what makes us straight-up giddy is that the accompanying music video was filmed at our train station in Los Angeles!
Last fall, Pharrell filmed a quirky and fun round-the-clock music video throughout L.A., beginning at the cities' most iconic spot--L.A. Union Station.
So far the 24-hour video has nearly 9 million views and the song sits at No. 1 on Spotify for the U.S.
“Happy,” which was first featured on Despicable Me 2 and is also on Pharrell's newest album GIRL, has become an international phenomenon and radio smash. In fact, the song has topped the chart in more than 75 countries, selling more than 2.3 million downloads worldwide.
“When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind,” says the seven-time GRAMMY winner. “One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it.”
L.A. Union Station saw more than 1.6 million passengers board and alight Amtrak trains in the last fiscal year. It is the busiest train station in California.
