How to Modify a Train Reservation During Severe Weather Events

Thanks to Mother Nature sometimes our train experience service disruptions. If your train has been affected, here’s what you need to know to reschedule or cancel your travel plans.

For Tickets Booked Online

If you have paid but choose not to travel due to the service disruption, you can receive a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some reservations booked online can be modified or canceled on Amtrak.com or by using the Amtrak mobile app.

If you purchased your tickets online and were logged in when you completed the purchase, you may cancel a train reservation online by following these steps:

  1. Log in by entering your user ID and password.
  2. Click ‘My Account’ link in the upper left-hand corner of any page.
  3. Click the ‘View/Edit’ button below the reservation you want to cancel.
  4. Click the ‘Cancel Trip’ button at the top of the reservation summary page and follow the steps for cancellation.

If you were not logged in when you purchased your tickets online, you may cancel a train reservation online by following these steps:

  1. Click on the ‘My Trip’ tab on the Fare Finder tool bar.
  2. Enter your reservation number and e-mail address or telephone number used when you completed the booking and click ‘Find.’
  3. Click the ‘Cancel Trip’ button at the top of the reservation summary page and follow the steps for cancellation.

You also can change your travel plans straight from our mobile app with just the touch of a button.

For Tickets Booked by Phone

If you purchased your tickets from our contact center, you will need to call 1-800-USA-Rail to cancel them.  Due to the severe weather, we are experiencing higher call volumes than normal so please be patient and our agents will help you as quickly as possible.

Lastly, if you are traveling during bad weather conditions, please check your train status before leaving for the station. Just like ticket changes, you can check a train’s status at Amtrak.com or from our mobile app.
