Howard, an Amtrak Conductor, has never been to the West Coast but he has the trip all planned out. “If I could go anywhere by train, I always tell people this, I would love to go up to Chicago over to Seattle then down to Los Angeles.” Howard, a former high school science teacher, is one of Amtrak’s more than 20,000 employees. He works along the Crescent route in the Southeast, where he says the best part about his job is, “meeting different people from different backgrounds and talking with them about their experiences.”
Amtrak challenged Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind Humans of New York, to leave New York and capture #AmtrakStories from across the country. For 31 days, we’ll share one new portrait and story each day on our blog in celebration of the customers who ride America’s Railroad.
