That was a wonderful video. I am a 17 year Air Force Vet and I've invested in the Veteran Advantage Card. The membership fee I paid a few years back has been recouped with the many many discounts. Amtrak, Greyhound, Airlines, Hotel, Movie Theaters, Car Rentals and the list goes on. The grand prize of all is my train travel since 2006, I've used the card for the past 7 years and even tho I will be 62 in 3 months, I will always take advantage of this wonderful discount (Vet Card). Of all the train stations I've traveled to, Washington DC has the best 1st class or Amtrak Plus lounge. I love traveling with Amtrak, gong to New Orleans in November, San Francisco in December and New York in February. And these trips originate in Van Nuys, CA....I love you Amtrak.
Why does Amtrak require veterans to purchase a discount card from an organization called Veterans Advantage to get a 15 percent discount on its Florida AutoTrain. What a scam.
I think the vets would also like a 4th of July SALE with a big discount in honor of their service. They deserve and need a break.
@hgardman1 It's really not a scam...I've been a member for several years, awaiting the day I turn 62..the card has paid for itself with all the savings.
Amtrak honors veterans with a 15percent discount on its Florida AutoTrain...only if the veteran purchase a membership in an organization called Veterans Advantage....this is about as disengenious as it gets: Read this Reply When I asked them why they have such a policy: I have edited my name so I want get emails from the crazies.

Dear ,Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately I cannot say. However, I am sorry that our current Veterans Discount policy is disappointing to you. This type of policy is determined by the powers that be at Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Amtrak Customer Service
This is a real joke...why does Amtrak require veterans to purchase a card from Veterans Advantage to get a 15 percent discount on its Florida Auto Train. Amtrak gets millions of dollars funding from the Feds...if Amtrak wanted to honor our veterans they should abolish this policy and give veterans and retirees a discount without having to purchase a dam card...you don't need a card to get a discount at Home Deopot and Lowes...why does one need a card to get a discount from Amtrak...
@trainmcp1138 Stay tuned! The locomotive is just the beginning!
@ChristyPulu Christy, great guess! Stay tuned to see if you're correct. Watch for the #AmtrakVets hashtag on social media.
@hgardman1 I like the veterans advantage card, not only do I get discounts from Amtrak, I've used the service for Airlines, Renting Cars, hotels, movies, target and the list goes on. In my opinion, the fee to purchase one, is a wonderful investment.
@RewandaMasonmcgee @hgardman1 ..I agree that this card will pay for itself if used frequently and if you purchase the lifetime card.. Do the math....how many trips will one have to take before the card pays for itself? For the veteran who travels once or twice every few years it is not a good deal. As far as the many other benefits there is a card available for veterans that offers far more discounts but does not include AmTrak for less than half the cost of the Veterans Advantage card. . My point is more relevant to patrotic jesture than economical...Amtrak could offer veterans a discount without having to pay for it....in recognition in honor for veterans service to the country..same as Lowes and Home Depot. . Then if a veteran wishes to purchase a card for other benefits then do so.
