The Official 'Chief' of National Train Day

Kansas City Union StationDid you know that a Jaguar dealer in Kansas City recently raced an $80,000 luxury car against our Southwest Chief train from Kansas City to Chicago? Or that Missouri State Senator Jolie Justus is a regular #Amtrak hastagger on Twitter?

Those are just two of the reasons we love Kansas City! The biggest and best reason is because they’re hyped up for National Train Day!

On May 11 all community members are welcome to Kansas City Union Station where there will be free kids’ activities sponsored by Chuggington, interactive and educational exhibits, model train displays and giveaways. Plus, the mayor is even coming!

Looking for an even better reason to visit the city? Now through May 17, the city is running a special promo between there and St. Louis on the Missouri River Runner train. It includes baseball tickets, free hotel stays and of course a round-trip train ride! You can enter to win at this link.

Even if you’re not up for that kind of adventure this National Train Day, there are 200 local events expected to happen all over the country. See what your community has planned here!

May 11 will be the sixth annual National Train Day, when folks across the country will be celebrating why trains matter to them, their towns, and their communities. In the mean time, let us know why trains matter to you in the comments section below!
