A Very Merry Mississippi for National Train Day

Crescent

M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-party in Mississippi for National Train Day! How ’bout you?

On May 11 both Jackson and Hattiesburg will be bumpin’ with train fans. At both events there will be free kids’ activities sponsored by Disney Channel’s Chuggington, interactive and educational exhibits, model train displays and giveaways.

Seriously, who doens’t love free stuff?

Mississippi is special when it comes to train travel, because it’s served by not one but TWO of our long-distance trains. The Crescent, which travels between New Orleans and New York City, goes through Hattiesburg and gives you an unforgettable look at the beauty and heritage of the American South.

Jackson is served by the City of New Orleans route, which travels between its namesake city and Chicago, passing through Memphis (where they’re also throwing down for National Train Day!) along the way. When you travel on that train, you’ll experience our bi-level sleeper cars, which are pretty cool!

And if you book before May 18, you can earn double Amtrak Guest Rewards points on both routes!

May 11 will be the sixth annual National Train Day, when folks across the country will be celebrating why trains matter to them, their towns, and their communities. See what your community has planned here! In the mean time, let us know why trains matter to you in the comments section below!
